Living the San Francisco Dream

St. Patrick's Day at the Fort Mason Community Garden

Yesterday, in honor of St. Patrick's Day...and because we could, and because the sun was shining... we enjoyed eating lunch at the Fort Mason Community Garden, where I'm having fun with my long-awaited garden plot.

The ceanothus (the large bushes in the picture, with blue blossoms - a California native plant) is at the height of its glory; calla lilies are blooming in abundance as are various types of poppies, iris and tulips. Chard glistens in many beds.

Many unknown (to me) flowers are blooming. Maybe some of you can tell me what the pretty light blue star shaped flowers  in the video are; I'd love to know.

--- Come for a visit; Stay for a lifetime!

Hi John Pusa and Kasey & John Boles and the team at Jon Gosche Real Estate, LLC - we simply spent a long lunch hour at the garden, then it was back to work time. Love taking time for a relaxed lunch from time to time - we aim to do that once a week when possible.

Lottie,  A picnic lunch in the community garden ... sun shining ... sounds perfect. I have no idea what those flowers are.

Good morning, Kathleen Daniels - next time you're in the City and have a bit of free time, wander over to the garden and spend a little time. Everyone is welcome (well, no dogs) and you'll see many birders there as well as gardeners.

Hello Cheryl Dukes - Atlanta - San Francisco is a very densely populated city, but we have a lot of open space and places like the Fort Mason Community Garden where we can detach and recharge our batteries!

Hello Sharon Lee - thanks for taking a stab at the flowers; the ones I saw are a very pale blue, with a different flower shape. Your picture is lovely--are those growing in your garden?

Hello Myrl Jeffcoat - thanks; I'm enjoying putzing around my garden plot, waiting to see what other surprises pop up. I found an iris the other day, amongst the other plantings.

Hi Debe Maxwell, CRS - I enjoy the color at the community garden, too, and seeing how each person decides to plant their plot. The deep blue ceanothus bush, flanked by yellow and orange poppies and white calla lilies was certainly eye catching.

Good morning, Gita Bantwal - we actually spent only about an hour there on Friday, but it was relaxing enough to feel like four!

You're right about that, Lou Ludwig - a visit to the community garden is good any day, not just holidays!

Hi Brian England - I've always enjoyed wandering through the community garden, but now that I have my "own" plot, it's even more fun. I have a new hobby to complement hiking and yoga!!
