The Ballot is Long and it's time to vote, San Francisco

Despite the length of our ballot this year -- 17 State propositions, 24 City measures, 1 regional one, plus candidates for national, state and local offices -- San Francisco makes it easy to vote, and now's the time.

California Ballot 2016

There are two more days to register to vote, and voting has already begun.

Voting ongoing at SF City Hall

Here's the scoop:

  • Vote at City Hall - now through November 8
  • Vote by mail - requests due by November 1
  • Vote at your polling place on election day, November 8. Polls are open from 7:00AM - 8:00PM

I voted, and hope you will, too!

Wow Lottie that is a lot to vote for. Folks will have to do their reading up to understand the issues.  Thankfully we only had a few this year - it was easy peasy to vote and we're done!

Hi Gene Mundt, IL/WI Mortgage Originator - FHA/VA/Conv/Jumbo/Portfolio/Refi - I wouldn't ever not vote! I'm happy to see many younger voters here taking an interest, registering and voting.

Dorie Dillard - absolutely agree with you -- it's a privilege to vote, and our duty, also.

Hi Anna Banana Kruchten - even though the ballot is long, it's not hard to get up to speed on the issues. Most I could decide easily and quickly; just 3 or 4 needed more thought and more info to help me decide.

I love early voting, too!

Yes for sure and it disappoints me that just over 80% of REALTORS® are registered to vote.

Lottie Kendall - You aren't kidding when you say the ballot is long this year in California!  I just received our CA official voter information booklet for our area and has 222 pages!  Congrats on doing your civic duty and being a good citizen by voting!

Joe Pryor - I wonder how that 80% compares with the general population? I hope every registered Realtor® votes and sets an example. In California, one has 2 more days to register.

Many years ago when my daughter was going to school in San Diego, Gene and I hit on our favorite way to study the State propositions; while I drive, he reads them, we discuss, we make up our minds (often the same; not always) and jot our choices down. It was so pleasant that we still do that today, Laura Allen, Lake Tahoe - Truckee Real Estate for Sale www.TahoeLauraLuxuryHomes.com

Lottie,  I anxiously await the results.  This presidential campaign has had me in knots.

A lot of us feel the same, Kathleen Daniels  We have some interesting State propositions too.

We will be having a fairly lengthy ballot ourselves here in NC this year. Important to remind people that the election is about more than just the presidency in many areas and that those results might impact them more than the race for the White House.

This is a good reminder for local residents. I hope all American citizens will vote.

Hi Rebecca Gaujot, the Go To Realtor® - it's a shame, but a fact, that people need to be prodded to vote. Do you have any interesting state or local issues on which to vote this year?

Hi Nina Hollander - with a lengthy ballot I appreciate my absentee ballot arriving early in the mail. A couple interesting and important state issues here: abolishing the death penalty and legalizing marijuana for recreational use by adults being two of them. How about you?

Posted by Lottie Kendall, Helping make your real estate dreams a reality (Compass) about 3 years ago

Hi Gita Bantwal - all American citizens should vote, but sadly they don't. This year I expect the turnout will be greater than it often is. We'll see. In addition to voting for the President, we have some interesting state and local issues on which to vote. Several San Francisco measures have to do with affordable housing issues.

Today was the first day for voting in Flower Mound. I waited for about 2 hours and the line went outside through the parking lot. There was no place to park and I had to hike before waiting in that long line. Two near-by cities had problems so people had to come to my polling place. Although it was a long wait, it was worth it.

It's great that people are getting out to the polls, Patricia Feager I hope this year's turnout is the best yet.

Hi Lottie...no seriously contentious issues to vote on, but contentious races, including for governor, senator.

A week ago I picked up our ballot book for Sacramento, and yes, it's a book, and began to study the propositions. It took me the entire afternoon to do it. But I felt I need to vote responsibly. It's complicated. You can't just read the first line or two of the proposition and think you understand what it's about because it could be about something completely different. I wonder how many people won't even know what they are voting for? I imagine a lot! And that's scary.

You're right Elizabeth Weintraub Sacramento Real Estate Agent, Top 1% of Lyon Agents - our voter "pamphlet" is indeed a book. Years ago my husband and I discovered a great time to read & discuss the propositions is while on a driving trip - that's what we did again this year on a recent trip to/from Clear Lake.
