Living the San Francisco Dream

Flower Piano - say what???

That's right, Flower Piano has returned to the San Francisco Botanical Garden in Golden Gate Park for the second year.

For 12 days only, July 7 through 18, 2016 the Botanical Garden in Golden Gate Park is hosting Flower Piano. Visitors can seek out 12 pianos tucked away in various spots in the gardens, perhaps on the great meadow, or in a quiet glen amongst a bower of flowers.

These pianos await your discovery. What to do when you stumble across one - unleash the musician in your soul, be it Chop Sticks or Chopin, Happy Birthday or Hayden. Or perhaps you'll hear music and follow the sound to enjoy another musician playing.

Flower Piano, SF, 2016

Flower Piano is a project of the "piano ninjas" Mauro Ffortissimo and Dean Mermell, who have expanded this social and musical experiment since 2013, when ffortissimo, under cover of night, placed an old piano on a bluff in Half Moon Bay, overlooking the ocean.

Cost of admission to residents of San Francisco (need proof of residency) is FREE! (Another reason to let me help you make your move to San Francisco sooner rather than later.)

--- Come for a visit; Stay for a lifetime!

Lottie

What a very cool idea to encourage people to visit and enjoy the botanical gardens, and perhaps make wonderful music!

I've already blocked off some time next weekend to head over and enjoy a couple of relaxed hours, Jeff Dowler CRS . The garden is lovely-species from every ecologic zone in California, with winding pathways leading from one to another. I'll be on a quest to find all 12 pianos!

Lottie, That's a pretty cool way to add to the attraction.  Me personally, my piano knowledge is limited to they have black keys and white keys and no real idea how to make the beauty come out of them, but enjoy that others can.  Bill

Good morning Lottie. This has happened in NYC and elsewhere and is a great way to let folks express themselves.

Liz and Bill Spear - good morning Bill - every good musician appreciates an audience; that's where you and I come in. Enjoy the day, Lottie

Sheila Anderson - interesting that putting pianos out in public spaces is happening in various places, not just in SF. I definitely will head to the park next weekend to enjoy the experience.

How fun is this.  And I have to think a wonderful setting to hear some wonderful surprises on the piano.  Mark

Hi Nick T Pappas - I've set aside time next Saturday to go visit those pianos tucked away in the gardens. I'll report back.

Oh this sounds dreamy! I close my eyes and picture myself there sitting behind one of those pianos, play Fur Elise by Beethoven! There's a soft breeze blowing through my hair, I don't have a care in the world. I'm sitting in the most beautiful gardens playing music on a Grand Piano surrounded by flowers!

I love, love, love your vision, Patricia Feager - I have no trouble at all picturing you at one of the pianos in the beautiful setting....
