Living the San Francisco Dream

Some explorations are Just More Fun with a dog

In San Francisco, you see dogs everywhere. Taking a dog to the park is an easy way to meet neighbors, to belong to a group. Store owners have water bowls out for pets; many have doggie treats behind the counter to hand out. This is a city that loves its dogs.

But not everyone is a pet owner or wishes to be, so what do you do? I borrow Tanner, our granddaughter's dog for fast-paced walks in and around The City.

Yesterday as daylight ended, we walked down to the Municipal Pier, from which Alcatraz seemed so close one could almost touch it (we can't) and the views back to Aquatic Park, Ghiradelli Square and Russian Hill were tantalizing.

San Francisco from the Municipal Pier

Sometimes, it's Just More Fun with a dog!

Lottie, I love your picture and I agree that it is fun to share walks and new sights with a dog. My Lab really likes getting in the car and even if it just down the street, it is an adventure for her! Have a great weekend!

Hi Lottie - I know what you mean.  When I baby sit my daughters beagle we go for nice sight seeing walks.  The dog always comes back tired.

Hi Lottie... what a wonderful picture! You'll surely get no argument from me that everything is more fun to do with a dog by your side. (By the way, did you know it's National Adopt A Shelter Dog today? Hint, hint. )

I need to borrow a dog.  I don't walk, so that will be an incentive to do so.

Oh, funny. My neighbor just called to ask me to take care of her dog tomorrow.

Lottie Kendall - You've come up with the perfect solution for those that want a dog, but don't have one - borrow one!  Great photo of the two of you!

Lottie, Great view!  Wish I'd gotten the chance to get to downtown SF 3 years ago on a business trip, but the best view I got was from the plane window on the way home just after taking off.

Labs, like retrievers, like the water, right, Susan Laxson ? Tanner was very interested in the water below, far more than in the seagulls!

Grant Schneider - beagles are very cute, energetic dogs! I bet you have fun.

Nina Hollander - no, as much as I enjoy Tanner, I don't want the responsibility of a dog at this point in life. I'm loving not having responsibility for kids--this is my selfish time of life

I hope you have a delightful time dog-sitting tomorrow, Jane Peters I know how much you enjoy animals.

Hi Hannah Williams - actually, Tanner is my granddaughter's dog! I can barely believe I have an adult granddaughter -- she's also my business assistant, soon to be licensed.

Hi Robert (Bob) Gilbert - large or small, I learned how much fun dogs can be. Rachael is in the process of moving today, so I think I'll take Tanner out for another walk this evening.

Borrowing a dog works for me, Laura Allen, Lake Tahoe - Truckee Real Estate for Sale www.TahoeLauraLuxuryHomes.com !

Hi Liz and Bill Spear - you'll just have to find a reason to come visit San Francisco and stay a few days. Let me know when, and we'll get together for coffee, wine, or ????

Hi Lottie.  I like the idea of borrowing a dog for a walk.  That's the way I would do it.

I get it Lottie... I've said this more than once in my life and then found I couldn't stand living in a house with a pet or two.

If I borrowed a random dog for a walk, I'd probably get yanked down the street, tangle up the leash, tumble down a hill and make a general mess of things.

Aloha Lottie, what a sweet pic, I bet Tanner was itching to go for a swim or chase the birds.

It's really fun walking with Tanner - he's such a happy dog, Debb Janes EcoBroker and Bernie Stea JD

Elizabeth Weintraub Sacramento Real Estate Agent, Top 1% of Lyon Agents - you paint a great picture with your words!

I held onto Tanner's leash pretty tightly, Kimo Stowell - he's a Golden Retriever, so definitely would go for a swim if I let him. He doesn't seem interested in birds--don't know why.

Lottie

I suppose one could also become a dog walker and earn some extra cash when time permits.

We have lots of dogs here as well, and many Carlsbad business owners put dog water dishes out.

That's a great photo of the city!

I enjoy seeing all the dog walker here in San Francisco, Jeff Dowler CRS - the dogs always look so happy!

I'm enjoying my life sans pets, Roger D. Mucci - but borrowing Tanner makes some walks that much more fun.

I understand.  I'm the same way, but I love going on dog walks with my brother when I am visiting him in Florida.

What a great post and photo too! I completely understand!

Tomorrow I pet sit for friends while they go out of town. I literally stay at their house to mind the pets and I don't mind at all. I'm also pet sitting for 3 kitties. Those folks are on their cruise. Even though I don't own pets anymore I still enjoy receiving the unconditional love from borrowed pets.

It's a great week, Roy Kelley - wrote two offers yesterday; one didn't fly (it's tough with multiples on everything and not enough inventory) but one likely will. I got out for a bit today for another Adventure with Tanner.

Hi Patricia Feager  - it's nice to have a pet to play with when time allows, without having full responsibility. I'm getting lazy, I guess. Tanner and I enjoyed another short walk today--taking time to smell the roses along the way. Enjoy your week.

Hi Lottie Kendall

I love to take my two dogs for walks and I have a leash that keeps them from getting tangled up.
