The Northern California Cherry Blossom Festival is celebrating its 49th year April 9 & 10, April 16 & 17, 2016, in Japan Town, San Francisco.
Said to be the second largest cherry blossom festival in the country, second to that in Washington DC, it takes place in one of 3 remaining Japan Towns in the United States, and hosts a wide variety of activities. Over 200,000 people join in the festivities which showcase the colorful and graceful Japanese culture and the diversity of the Japanese-American people.
Numerous activities and events are planned over the course of two weekends. Taiko drumming, a tea ceremony, Japanese pop culture, ikebana (Japanese flower arranging), bonsai and, of course food and drink - it's all here. The popular parade from City Hall to Japan Town takes place on Sunday 4/17/16. Check out the schedule of events so you don't miss your favorites!
New this year is an interactive art experience sponsored by the Asian Art Museum with artist Motoi Takahashi. Named "Wish for World Peace" one can color one of the 1,000 cranes Mr. Takasashi has created, and then post them on a large canvas. This takes place the first weekend, April 9 & 10, and is bound to be one of the most popular events.

Yeah, we could certainly use a bit more world peace, right Kathleen Daniels ? I hope you stayed cool in San Jose today; it's 83 degrees at 6:15 here in the City.
And I hope to do just that Lou Ludwig . Relatives will be in town, so they can enjoy the Cherry Blossom Festival too.
