City view

  • Bay to Breakers zaninessenjoy, or at least tolerate, zany activities like the annual Bay to Breakers run, numerous parades, protests - and know how to avoid the street closures
  • avoid Fisherman's Wharf and instead head to your favorite neighborhood fish restaurant, like ours at the corner of Hyde and Jackson Streets, Hyde Street Seafood House, for a great meal served by people who know and welcome you
  • enjoy hanging out in tucked away tiny parks and pedestrian ways, like Jack Early Park or tiny Marion Way, with their little benches, alone in a crowded city
  • White Crane troope, City Hall, SFknow the shortest way from Point A to Point B might well be a staircase when the hill is too steep for the road to continue - and enjoy taking it!
  • dress in layers, knowing that while many neighborhoods might be bask in the gentle sun, a hill away the cool fog is blanketing the area
  • enjoy the many cultural activities - the music, dance, art, theater, museums, lectures -- on and on it goes.
  • know how to find your quiet spots in the midst of all the activity

Lottie, your city serves up lots of variety for activities, but I can't imagine any seafood better than Scoma's down on Fisherman's Wharf!!!

Hi Lottie Kendall : You are definitely a favorite daughter of San Francisco. A clueless tourist can be challenged by the change in weather; between the hot sunny day and cool fog.

The array of different cultures add richness to this city. Is it San Francisco where I see parallel parking on steep roads?

Lottie Kendall, San Francisco is a special city for residents and visitors alike.  There is a lot to see and do there and in the surrounding countryside.  I commuted to the Peninsula many years ago for business, flying into San Francisco International Airport.  It's where I met the person who would become my wife and we spent many weekends exploring the City.

Thank you for taking the time to write this post and for participating in the ActiveRain contest.

Hi Lottie, dealing with the crowds all the time must be no fun.  SF is my favorite place to visit.  Hope you have a nice quiet spot, too.

I think you hit the nail on the head.  Missing SF after living there for over 25 years!  I guess you know my heart is still there.

Hi Michael Dagner - it's easy to get away from the crowds when one's not in the mood - you just have to know The City!

Bruce Walter - Scoma's in SF and in Sausalito is great, but there's something special about a neighborhood place where the waiters know you, and you can relax and not be rushed!

Gita Bantwal  - come on out for the Active Rain Meet Up on 5/13/15! I'm hosting one!
