Living the San Francisco Dream

Seeking that elusive balance

The life of a Realtor® can get out of kilter in the blink of an eye. Working on weekends as much as many of us do, then putting in another 40 hours during the week can leave us jittery and less efficient than we need to be.

So, how do you handle that?

I try to take a half-day off during the week, as well as a half-day on the weekends. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Yesterday worked!

I worked a couple of hours in the early morning, then at 8:30 I met my friend for a hike through Crissy Field, across the Golden Gate Bridge, up into the Marin Headlands to the top of Slacker Hill, and then back. We capped off our 13-mile hike with lunch from Greens to Go at Fort Mason, sitting at the edge of the bay with the warm sun at our backs and the cool breeze gently blowing, before returning to our cars.

By 2:30 I was back at home; by 3:30 I was back at work, refreshed and happy. There's nothing quite like a day hiking in the sunshine with a kindred spirit to refresh and recharge. I'm still smiling!

On the Golden Gate bridgeAre you ready to live your San Francisco dream?

--- Come for a visit; Stay for a lifetime!

Lottie, With all the workouts I've been doing I will soon be ready, and physically able to make a 13 mile hike with you. It's amazing what even just a few hours away from all the "noise" in life and in business can do for our soul.  I'll bet you are still smiling ...I'm smiling too just reading this.

Aw, good for you Lottie. I'm very happy to hear you take care of yourself too. It's the only way to operate. I'd love to have gone on that hike with you. Sounds delightful.

Good morning, Lottie. It is good to hear that you got your batteries recharged. It is easy to get out of kilter.

Kathleen, say the word and we'll find a time to do it!

Debb, next time you're in San Francisco.....

Hi Michael, that hike was just what I needed - it was so much fun hiking with a great companion.

Lottie, it is definitely difficult trying to balance life when real estate is on fire.    I have decided, July and August usually slow down, and can wait until then to take time off.   Your hikes always look so fun.

There's nothing quite like fresh air, healthy exercise, good companionship and laughter to refresh the mind and help us work happier and more efficiently. I hope you get a few days off soon, Joan, or every a half-day!

Fabulous picture!  I'm happy for you that you got that time to recharge.  We all should do this more often!

Lottie - You take the most amazing hikes and walks around the San Francisco area. Great photographs!

Adrian, that hike had me smiling for 2 days!

Sharon, that's my favorite way to de-stress and recharge the batteries. My friend, Nicole, took the pictures--she's an amazing photographer (and graphic artist, and yogini, and lover of the arts, etc. etc.)

Laura, I never run out of places to walk and explore! I love Nicole's picture--I've been on that trail numerous times, but never "saw" the shot she took with the tree.

Love that you got you half day Lottie. I need a full day or maybe a week or two.

Debbie, that half day was fantastic! A full day would be even better, but I'll settle for 2 more half-days this weekend.

Lottie, this sounds like a great way to spend your half day refreshment break.

It was perfect, Bob. Now this week, when I'm working 12-14 days, I can think back to that time and feel myself relaxing and grounding.
