Living the San Francisco Dream

Today's Brush-the-cobwebs-from-the-brain hike in San Francisco

Hiking in San Francisco is always an adventure and delight, with unexpected sights and sounds. Today's walk was no exception. For me a good antidote to too much work, or too much holiday, is to step away from the computer, close the office door for a bit and get some fresh air.

Late this afternoon my husband and I did just that, heading up and over Russian Hill via charming Macondray Lane, through North Beach and up the northern slope of Telegraph Hill. Today our destination wasn't Coit Tower and Pioneer Park, but rather tiny Jack Early Park.

Grant Avenue near Pfiffer Street

Jack Early Park consists of a dead-end staircase tucked between two gorgeous homes on Grant Avenue, just a few blocks uphill from Fisherman's Wharf. The reward for tackling the hills and staircases is simply a tiny deck with seating for 2 people. But the view -- quite outstanding.

The sun was low in the sky as we walked back home via Bay Street and Polk Street. We were treated to a lovely sunset as we came to Leopold's German Restaurant. It was 5:20 PM, 10 minutes to opening hour. We decided to wait, enjoy the sunset, and then a fine dinner in the friendly, noisy, Munich-beer-garden style restaurant which was packed in a matter of minutes.

Nancy, Jack Early Park is so tiny and tucked away, very few people know it exists.

Hello Joe - the views are ever-changing with shipping in the bay, clouds, fog, etc. Always magical

Barbara, maybe I should hook up with the Chamber of Commerce! LOL! I love sharing my adventures here in San Francisco.

Joan, with all the restaurants in town, it's a good thing I have hills to climb!

Bruce, have you visited San Francisco yet? It's quite an experience, whether you enjoy the outdoors, the arts, music, dining, shopping - it's all here, in an exquisite setting.

Bob, as you know, sharing tidbits about my life in San Francisco is what I love to do. So many people like me, living in the suburbs for years, wonder what it is like to move to San Francisco. My hope is that blog posts like this one gives people a feeling for living here.
