Shop Local, Get Healthy?
I hit upon a great way to double-task and enjoyed every minute of it, not something you'll hear this non-shopper say very often.
This Christmas I had some very specific gift requests I wanted to fill for our 2 "Adopt-a-Family" groups, so Saturday afternoon off I went.
- First stop: Academy of Sciences at Golden Gate Park for 2 gift memberships (I ended up with one for myself, too )
- Then off to get some gift cards from the recipients' preferred grocery stores, Safeway and Smart & Final
- Next, a visit to Clement Street in search of a gift card to one of the Vietnamese Restaurants located there
Shopping accomplished, I continued walking, enjoying the tendrils of fog weaving their way through blue, sunny skies as I walked through the neighborhoods and shopping districts of Laurel Heights, Presidio Heights, Pacific Heights.
A 4-mile walk home, plus a 1-mile walk from the bus I chose to take earlier made for a healthy way to shop local.
Living in San Francisco is conducive to walking--great neighborhood shopping districts near single-family houses and condominiums, beautiful vistas and weather we can enjoy year round. This is a lifestyle that's easy to enjoy.
