Living the San Francisco Dream

Cool House in Pacific Heights, San Francisco

The Pacific Heights neighborhood of San Francisco is known for huge and lavish mansions, but it's also home to more subtle and smaller homes. Architecture here is diverse, and almost every block has something that catches my eye.

When I walk to and from my early morning exercise class, I pass this house on Franklin Street. It always makes me smile - just seems whimsical to me.

This week as I glanced at the house, I spotted a little guy peeking out at me. I hope you like this detail shot.

Every day, every walk I take, something is bound to catch my fancy.

Lottie: I love the way those houses are built on the hills of San Francisco, each one different. You would not expect a whimsical pumpkin to look out, put in just the perfect place so he can have a view of YOU.

Hi Hella - yes, there's quite a variety of houses up and down the hills. I hadn't thought of the pumpkin viewing me!

Lottie, wow.  This post makes me feel like a time traveler!  I just remember that movie, Pacific Heights, that was a real estate horror film set in a beautiful neighborhood!

Wasn't that a creepy movie, Pat? As a landlord it still makes me shudder. Maybe I'll dig up a photo of that house and post it sometime.

That is a cool house and the molding work is amazing.  I see they're also following the trend with the darker paint color.  That makes it even more interesting.

This home is so spectacularily beautiful! Wow! I wish that I could see it in person, what personality and craftsmanship! This is one lucky homebuyer, incredible! Thank you for sharing Lottie.

Bryan, I smile whenever I see this house!

Amy, it's a riot of woodwork, isn't it? Not for sale that I'm aware of, just a cool house to enjoy as I pass by.

Lottie: First, you are in one of the prettiest places in the world with gorgeous views and a beautiful European style. I LOVE the homes you took pictures of especially the last one with the person looking out.

Lottie, I really love this photo is shows how unique San Francisco is... look at the facades of the three buildings... could they be anymore different? No cookie cutters allowed in SF!

Laura, come for a walk with me when you're down this way.

Jimmy, how nice of you to sing the praises of San Francisco. Part of its charm is the small physical size, the unique neighborhoods tucked between the hills, and the views of the bay, the ocean, Marin County hills, etc. Sounds like you're due for a visit.

Nancy, San Francisco revels in it's uniqueness, the relative lack of 'big box' stores. When you come (notice the when, not if) we'll grab coffee, and take a walk while we talk.

Hi Lottie, I love the old classic buildings, and your city has a wealth of historical architectural gems.

Amazing to have one house with the oranate moldings next door to one that is stark and modern.  Love the pumpkin in the window.

Yep, San Francisco is a very eclectic city! I thought the pumpkin was cute, too, Cindy.

As we prepare to leave a few days early to fly to San Francisco for the NAR Conference,  I'll remember this blog post.  Since you live in California, hopefully you'll be able to make time to attend that conference/ convention, also!
