Living the San Francisco Dream

Youth America's Cup Yacht Racing on San Francisco Bay

Red Bull's Youth America's Cup Racing on San Francisco Bay, September 2013

Today, Labor Day, saw races 3 and 4 of the Red Bull America's Cup Yacht Racing on San Francisco Bay. 10 teams from 8 nations are competing in a series of 8 fleet races. This is colorful, exciting sailing, by sailors ages 19-24, and precedes the America's Cup races that begin on September 7, 2013. Watching 10 boats on the bay, jockeying for position, strategizing how to make the turns and when to tack is exhilarating; anything can (and did) happen. Light winds today favored Portugal in Race 3. The scene below shows the finish, with Portugal coming in 1st place, followed in close succession by Switzerland in 2nd and USA in 3rd:

As you can see, today was a picture-perfect day on San Francisco Bay,

and the racing did not disappoint!

Races 5 and 6 are scheduled for Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at 11:00 AM, PDT. The races should conclude with fleet races 7 and 8 on Wednesday, September 4 2013, again at 11:00 AM PDT. High winds, or low winds, could draw the races out a day or two.

Check out the schedule for the remaining Red Bull Youth America's Cup fleet racing and then the America's Cup series itself.

--- Come for a visit; Stay for a lifetime!

It was a gorgeous day on the bay, and fun to watch these fleet races - more interesting to me than the one-on-one races

Hey Lottie - how fun. And, good for you for bringing us the event via video. It's the next best thing to being there!

Debb I don't know what happened to the sound - it's a learning process for me, definitely.
