Living the San Francisco Dream

Jog, Hike or Stroll San Francisco's Lands' End Trail

Jog, hike or stroll along the Lands' End Trail in San Francisco

It's hard to imagine a better way to incorporate fresh air and exercise in a world-class setting.

Lands' End Trail in San Francisco

One of my favorite ways to end a work day is to get outside and move, and one of my favorite places to go to is just up the hill from the Cliff House, above the ruins of the old Sutro Baths. There the Coastal Trail begins it's most scenic stretch, hugging the cliffs above the Pacific Ocean, with the sound of crashing waves below and views of the Golden Gate Bridge.

The map shows a 2-mile stretch, a mixture of paved and unpaved pathways, winding trails, steep staircases, etc. One can continue on, but an out-and-back walk or jog is an easy way to enjoy 45-60 minutes.

This video was taken late one afternoon from Point B on the map (erroneously called Eagle Point in the video--sorry!) I hope it captures a tiny bit of the feeling of grandeur and peace this trail provides.

If you're planning a visit to San Francisco--or if you are lucky enough to live here--check out the Coastal Trail at Lands' End in San Francisco.

Lottie, this is a great area to visit thanks to your blog.  Just curious, is the area in green The Presidio?

That's a good walk and I've done it before with my dad.  The views are incredible from out there.

Lottie, That is so beautiful.  I want to go there the next time I visit my son. I know he knows about the trail.

Nancy, the City is awaiting a visit from you!

Peter, if you haven't been here before, you're in for a treat. (Even if you have visited the Lands' End trail, you're in for a treat.)

Roger, you would love it.

Laura, next time you're down this way.....

Kathleen, do ask your son to take you to the Lands' End trail. There's a labyrinth just below the spot where I shot the video - if you happen to have it to yourself, it's a wonderful spot for a bit of meditation.
