Living the San Francisco Dream

Little Known Factoids about Me, From The Present

Thank you, Debbie Reynolds, for strengthening our sense of community here on Active Rain with your What-We-Have-in-Common contest. I enjoyed writing about things from my past; now to the present. Many of you probably don't know:

  1. Yoga hike in SFMy husband and I live in the heart of San Francisco, and love it! After 40 years in the same suburban town, we're loving our new lifestyle sans yard, sans household chores.
  2. I walk to do my errands. Whether it's to the post office or for office supplies, to the optometrist or nail salon, grocery, hardware or library, my feet take me up and down hills and staircases.
  3. I am new to Pilates classes and Hiking Yoga. Exercising with interesting people 30 years my junior is stimulating! (and challenging!)
  4. I'm now a member of two real estate boards. San Mateo County is where my office is located and much of my practice in there and in the neighboring Silicon Valley. However, I love introducing people to the San Francisco neighborhoods and am also a member of the San Francisco Association of Realtors. Real estate is practiced very differently here.
  5. I engage in street clean up days! Who knew pushing a broom and cleaning up streets in the Upper Polk Street neighborhood as a member of the Middle Polk Neighborhood Association could be so much fun -- and make one so annoyed at the number of cigarette butts and paper trash dropped thoughtlessly down. (I feel a blog post forming!)
  6. I drive a Prius, and think 50-miles-per-gallon is pretty awesome! Even though I don't drive on City days, my work takes me up and down the Peninsula. The Prius is just the ticket.
  7. My dream vacation is a heli-hiking trip with the whole family to a lodge in the Canadian Rockies. If I ever buy a lottery ticket and win, (or when I sell that $20,000,000 Pacific Heights mansion!) that's what I'd do!
  8. I want to have my next birthday party at Planet Granite and learn to scale walls and rappel down them - but I can think of only a couple of friends who might join me.
  9. Today I'm putting the "Active" back in Active Rain - it's my re-entry into the blogging world after dropping off for longer than I wished. (Thanks, Debbie)
  10. And -- I'm celebrating my 20th anniversary of being cancer free this year! Life is good, indeed.

I love San Fran. So cool that you can walk everywhere. I've taken Pilates for over 5 years and love it...I know you will, too.

Lottie, You definitely live an active lifestyle. You love what you do and where you live and it shows. It may well be the secret to longevity. 20 years cancer free ... now that is something to celebrate. I'm looking forward to my one year anniversary. I'll be blessed even more to get another 19 years thereafter.

Hi Lottie, Nice to meet you!  I too am a cancer survivor.  It sounds like you do a great job of taking care of yourself!

Sharon, thank you. It dawned on me recently that this summer marked 20 years of being cancer free. Without a doubt, these 20 years have been extra sweet--in many ways.

Kathleen, I'm so hoping we'll still be friends 19 years from now so we can celebrate your 20 year anniversary together!! Hugs!

Bob, isn't it great to dream big? There was a time when I "dreamt" very achievable dreams; but it's much more fun to dream the big ones! I hope all of yours come true.

Bette -- congratulation to you!! Life is even sweeter than before, isn't it? Nice to meet you here.

Lottie - so good to see you....I've missed spotting your smiling face in the blog roll (tho I've been a little sidetracked from the Rain too this summer). Your dream vacation sounds like it'd be the adventure of a lifetime. Hope you get to do it!! ( what a blog that will make).

Life is good and you make it sound full and wonderful. Congrats on being cancer-free. I fantasize about living in the city and experiencing the life there. Maybe one day. You did the contest (thank you) and now back to a regular blogging schedule. I could see many post ideas buried in these entries (neighborhood clean ups, drivng a Green car, balancing between two boards, city selling vs burb selling).

Debbie, I think one knows when (and if) making the move to an urban center is the right step. It surely was for us. Finding ideas for blog posts is never an issue -- it's reigning the ideas in and focusing. Maybe if I resumed yoga I'd regain the discipline?? :)

Lottie, what a fascinating life you have led in the past and now the present.  I hope that Dave & I make it back to San Francisco so I can hike the hills with you.  And I am sure that we would not run out of things to talk about from the 60's to the present.

PS  I am so glad that you have been cancer free for 20 years.  Here's to the next 20..............

I'd love to go hike with you, Mary. I really had hoped that you and Dave you have come now, to enjoy the America's Cup yacht races (which so far have been a disappointment, I must say.) But the hiking is always good.
