Living my San Francisco Dream - Lafayette Park is getting a re-do

Lafayette Park San FranciscoLafayette Park sits high on a knoll in Pacific Heights, bordered by Washington, Gough, Sacramento and Laguna streets. It's a favorite of neighbors and visitors alike, both two-legged and four-legged. This multi-use park was created in 1936 and last updated in 1986. Like many of San Francisco's over 200 parks, it has been suffering from heavy use and time, and is in need of sprucing up.

Lafayette Park children's play areaThe time has come, and the plans for upgrading Lafayette Park are extensive. Repair and/or renovation is planned for the restroom facilities, children's playground, picnic area, tennis courts, road and pathways. Infrastructure upgrades will be made to lighting and irrigation.
People and dogs at Lafayette Park, SFThe park closed to the public last week, although temporary off-leash dog play areas will remain open during the course of the project, which is expected to last 10 or 12 months.

While Lafayette Park is closed, I'll be picnicking at Alta Plaza Park, 4 blocks to the West, or at Sterling Park on  Russian Hill. With over 200 parks in San Francisco, options are many. But--when Lafayette Park reopens in 2013, I'll be back.

--- Come for a visit; Stay for a lifetime!

While a tad inconvenient, it's great that parks are getting much-needed upgrades, isn't it, David? We're fortunate to have to much open space and park areas right in our midst.

Always nice to see parks and community areas get a face lift.  Thanks for sharing, looks like a very nice place.

Hi Caron - yes, I think the renovation of Lafayette Park will be worth the wait. Looking forward to writing a post with pictures when it's done next year!
