East Meets West - The Year of the Dragon

Dragon Float at SF Civic Plaza

mucisian at the farmer's marketMost Sunday mornings I start the day by walking to one of the Farmer's Markets. One of the largest ones is the Heart of the City Farmer's Market held at the United Nations' Plaza near the Civic Center.

Dragon Head, SF Civic Plaza

There's always something going on in San Francisco--people to chat with and learn from, new ideas to ponder. I suspect this beautiful dragon will have a major role in the Chinese New Year parade which will be held Saturday evening, 2/11/12.

Great series, Lottie!  That's an amazing display for a farmer's market.  No doubt there's lots to see and do in SF.

Lottie... I hope it will not be raining for the parade this year... rain can make the experience pretty awful, but, when the sky is clear, the floats and colorful people are mesmerizing!

I was just in The City last Saturday Lottie and saw that dragon.  I love visiting San Francisco and have posted about The City too.  Thanks for sharing.

Lottie ... Your "year of the dragon" events for San Francisco and city hall area look like they will be fun.  Thanks for this good and colorful local post.

By the way, I ran the SF marathon once years ago and enjoyed the sites, slowed down to see and visit, and finished in front of City Hall.

Thanks, Jennifer. This is definitely a colorful city, and Chinese New Year celebrations the most colorful of all.

David, the dancing dragons are definitely my favorite entries in the parade. Quite an athletic feat to keep up for 2-1/2 hours! Hope your friend enjoyed his experience.

Peggy, we had great weather for the parade. Such a lot of people in a small area. And the noise ....... Wow!

James, the small physical size and various neighborhoods make San Francisco a delightful town to visit. Not to mention the physical beauty of the area. Hope you get to visit soon.

Hello Jim -- my photos don't do that dragon justice -- truly beautiful, isn't it? And so imperial-looking!

Hello Harrison -- congrats on your SF marathon run. I've done the half-marathon here (through Golden Gate Park and along the ocean) and loved it. Today I try to keep on trails instead of many miles on pavement--a concession to aging knees! Luckily, the City is full of park land, ideal for running, jogging, hiking.

Hi Larry and Sheila -- glad you enjoyed the photos. Chinese New Year celebrations have to be the most colorful.
