Living the San Francisco Dream

Why living in the SF area is so great - Reason #1

Why Living in the San Francisco area in 2012 is so great - Reason #1

#1 - We have miles of hiking trails, and the ability to enjoy them 12 months of the year!

These photos were taken on January 7, hard as that may be to believe. Shirtsleeves were the order of the day in Marin County, CA. Muir Beach is a little over an hour's drive north from San Carlos, and about 40 minutes from San Francisco.

Starting our hike at Muir Beach, we walked past the Pelican Inn, along the Redwood Creek Trail, up the Deer Park Fire Road, up the famous Dipsea Trail to near the high point. Lunch with a 20-minute siesta in the warm winter sun was an absolute delight.

Along the Coast View Trail, Marin Co, CAAnd the joy continued as we headed down the Coast View Trail toward Muir Beach Overlook. Of all the trails in the Marin Headlands, this is one of our very favorites, especially on a day as clear as Saturday.

from the trail near Slide Ranch, Marin Co., CA

An unexpected pleasure was finding a new trail near the Overlook, which lead us to Slide Ranch, now parkland used as an environmental educational center. On a coastal bluff at Slide Ranch, Marin Co, CA

Returning to our car around 4:30 allowed us time to explore some back roads before heading for an early supper of tacos and beer in Sausalito.

A day-trip not to be missed!

--- Come for a visit; Stay for a lifetime!

Sounds like a great place to visit.  Next time I am up north I will take it in.

San Fran is one of my favorite places to visit.  The city is filled with magic.  I used to live in Novato about 3 decades ago.

Looks like this is your new resolution ---  a seires of blogs on why it's great to live where we do. Thanks for the blog. This is something I should check out.  What a fabulous hike that must have been. We just drive around, hugging the coast line on 101. And stopping where something strikes our fancy.

I love living here!

You must have some really good shoes for all the hiking you are able to do.  Thanks for sharing some wonder places and views with us.

Your blog brings back fond memories of the time Dolores and I stayed at the Pelican Inn that was recommended by our friend in San Francisco.

I have always believed the Northern California Coastline to be among the most beautiful in the world.   Thank you for bringing the lesser traveled places to life.

Lottie, You have picked a great reason as #1.  I hope this is the beginning of a series to tell more about the SF area.
