FREE Super Bowl 50 Activities in San Francisco

Super Bowl 50 is just around the corner, and The City That Knows How has prepared for the giant party that San Francisco will be for the next couple of weeks. The game itself will be played at the 49er's new stadium in Santa Clara, in the heart of the Silicon Valley, but week-long activities are planned in San Francisco, which is expecting over 1,000,000 visitors.

"It's [San Francisco] going to be crowded. There is going to be traffic, and there are going to be streets closed," warns Charlotte Shultz, the city's Chief of Protocol. "We're a city that knows how to either take that in stride or complain about it."

Since complaining only hurts the complainer my advice: Embrace it! Participate! Have fun!

Justin Herman Plaza and a good part of the Embarcadero will become Super Bowl City, a hub for Super Bowl related activities, operating from January 30 to February 7, 2016. For a map of events, click on the Ferry Building pictured below, and see the changes made for these next few weeks:

Super Bowl City is free and family friendly, with events targeted at both residents and visitors alike. Residents might wish to enjoy this coming weekend, before out-of-town guests arrive.

A few of the many FREE activities and events at Super Bowl City:

  • Super Bowl City opens at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 30, 2016
  • 1/30 - 7:25PM - the Bay Lights, an LED show on the suspension cables of the Bay Bridge will flicker back on permanently, followed by a fireworks show on the bay and Chris Isaak performing on City Stage
  • 1/31 - 3:00PM - Oakland Interfaith Gospel performs on City Stage (dynamic!)
  • 2/3, 2/4 and 2/6 - photo ops on the Fan Stage with former 49ers Jeff Garcia, Guy McIntyre and NaVarro Bowman
  • 2/5 - 7:30PM - another firework show on the bay
  • 2/6 - 7:00PM - Alicia Keyes performs on City Stage
